How is lubricant used?

28.11.2022 klo 10:52 - Produced by Family Federation of Finland
Lubricant is a s a substance that helps to reduce friction between surfaces that can be used during sex and masturbation. Lubricant prevents chafing, promotes pleasure and helps keep the condom from breaking.

Depending on the type of sex, the lubricant is applied to the penis, vagina, vulva’s mucous membranes, anus, sex toy or fingers. Lubricant is an important part of all kinds of sex, but it is especially important to remember to use lubricant when having anal sex. During anal sex, an adequate amount of lubricant must be used to prevent damage to the rectum or sphincter. There are specific lubricants intended for anal sex that are often slightly thicker than other lubricants. The use of numbing lubricants should be avoided during anal sex. Lubricants intended for anal sex can be purchased online and from sex shops. Anyone, regardless of age, can buy lubricants from grocery stores, pharmacies, online shops and sex shops.

Use of a lubricant

When using a condom, apply lubricant over the condom after placing the condom on an erect penis. See this link for instructions on how to use the condom. Lubricant is abundant, so a small amount is sufficient. It may also be necessary to add more lubricant during sex.

When using an oral dam, lubricant can be used between the oral dam and the area to which oral sex is to be performed. A small amount of lubricant can help to keep an oral dam in place more effectively and increase enjoyment. In this case, a small amount of lubricant is applied to the area where oral sex is to be performed, after which the oral dam is placed over the area.

How do I choose a suitable lubricant?

There are different types of lubricants. Water and silicone-based lubricant are suitable for use with condoms and oral dams. An oil-based lubricant is not suitable for use with a condom, as it may weaken the condom.

A water-based lubricant dries faster than a silicone-based lubricant which is often slightly thicker than the water-based lubricant. It may be necessary to add water-based lubricant during sex or masturbation.

The intended use must be taken into account, when selecting a lubricant. With sex toys, water-based lubricant is a safe choice. A silicone-based lubricant should not be used with sex toys made from silicone, as it may damage the surface of the sex toy. Silicone-based lubricant may in some cases irritate mucous membranes, and in these cases it should not be used. Everyone can find a suitable lubricant through trial and error.

A silicone-based lubricant should be washed and wiped off the skin and penis/vulva /anus area after sex or masturbation. Water-based lubricant does not need to be washed off. Any stains to clothes and sheets caused by silicone-based lubricant will come out in the wash.
