Pacifier and baby bottle care

28.04.2020 klo 09:42 - Produced by Family Federation of Finland
Pacifiers and baby bottles are part of the day-to-day life of many families with babies. You should check the condition of the pacifier and the bottle nipple daily by stretching and washing them. If there are scratches, holes, scaling, swelling or they get loose when pulled, they should be replaced.
  • The recommended period of use of the pacifier is 1-2 months.
  • If the pacifier drops on the floor, it is rinsed.
  • Wash new, unused baby bottles thoroughly and boil them in boiling water for approximately five minutes before use.
  • Bottles are stored pre-assembled in a dry place, protected from light.
  • If the washed and cooked bottles do not fit in the drying cabinet, a suitable substrate for drying and cooling the bottles is, for example, on kitchen or baking paper.
  • After use, it is best to rinse the bottle parts first with cold tap water to remove the milk proteins from them.
  • After rinsing, the bottles are washed normally with warm water and dish detergent by hand or in a dishwasher. If the bottles are machine washed, they can still be rinsed with clean tap water after washing to ensure that no detergent remains.
  • Bottle nipples are best washed by hand using a dish brush, and it is also important to turn them inside out during washing.
  • If necessary, squeeze any remaining water in the nipple before use.
  • After washing, all parts of the bottle are boiled in boiling water for 5 to 10 minutes or sterilized with a bottle sterilizer according to the instructions of the device. Daily cooking of the bottles can be dispensed with as the baby begins to eat solid foods.
  • You should check the condition of the pacifier and the bottle nipple from time to time by stretching them. If there are scratches, holes, scaling, swelling or they get loose when pulled, they should be replaced.
